STAY!!

Jesus described Himself as many things. One of my favorites is “I am the good shepherd” John 10:11a. In the parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus likens Himself to a shepherd who has 100 sheep and realizes that one has strayed off. He leaves the 99 and goes to search for the one!! We love this parable because it tells of God’s unfailing love and care! Very reassuring.

As I mused over these verses the Holy Spirit dropped something in my spirit and I want to share that with you!!

A good shepherd provides food, shelter, care, and protection among others for his sheep. In order for the sheep to enjoy these benefits, they have to stay in the fold. If a sheep wanders away, it opens itself up to suffer all kinds of troubles-it will go hungry, be at the mercy of the weather, be lonely, could become easy prey for predators, and the list goes on. Yes, the good shepherd will go after the sheep but boy, until they’re reconciled, so many unfortunate things can befall the strayed sheep.

Our God loves us, will never leave us, and will always come after us when we wander off, but you may endure needless hardship, pain, and consequences that may dog you for a season. It’s not worth the emotional trauma, the loss and the time it would take for you to get back on track with your Shepherd.

So stay in the sheepfold, abide in your Good Shepherd; listen to, hear, and obey His voice. There’s nothing good out there, so STAY!!
