Obey first

This morning, during our 5am prayers, our Pastor reiterated that the overarching goal of these prayers is to help build us up as Christians and help us grow in our walk with God.

Sometimes, we Christians become so focused on what God can do for us or what we can get from Him. It’s not uncommon to see people who don’t really care for what God wants, turn to Him for help when they’re in need or in trouble.

Abraham on my mind today. God tested him in Genesis 22 by asking him to sacrifice his only son. It was an unusual and a hard request. Abraham proceeded to do as asked. He went to the designated place with his son, prepared the altar, bound his son, and laid the boy on the wood. Just when he was about to slay his son God spoke and told Abraham not to hurt the boy.

‭‭”Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.” Gen. 22:13

Of course, God never intended for Abraham to kill his son in the first place. God had provided the object for the sacrifice in the thicket.

Note though, that God only provided the ram when Abraham obeyed. Even a cursory reading of the Bible will show you that God places a premium on obedience.

Like me, you’re probably waiting for an answer from God; you’re praying for Him to meet a need. Try obedience first. Do what His word requires, seek to please Him first, and watch Him provide for your every need.

Blessings!

Love,

Pas. Mo ❤️
