Pray Before…

I love me some Jonah. He was a bundle of contradictions. He was a prophet who knew God was everywhere and yet decided “to flee… from the presence of God”. He preached in a big city and successfully got the whole city to turn to God and yet became angry because his mission was successful. Lol.

Anyhoo, as the story goes, God asked Jonah to go evangelize to a heathen city. “But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed to Tarshish”. Jonah 1:3. Jonah didn’t talk to God; he didn’t ask Him any questions; he didn’t try to reason with God. He said nothing to God. He received the command from the Lord and basically just walked off.

The ship he boarded nearly sank and in a bid to save their ship and other lives on board, the sailors threw Jonah overboard. God provided a huge fish to swallow him. “Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God”. Jonah 2:1.

It was only when Jonah was in the belly of the fish that he finally talked to his God. He didn’t pray or talk to God when God first gave him his assignment. It was only when Jonah found himself in trouble, in that cold, dark, smelly, gross belly of the fish that he prayed! Maybe if he had prayed before he walked away in a huff from God, he could have avoided his predicament.

Some of us ignore God, walk away from him, pay him no mind until we’re in trouble. That is the only time we remember the Lord our God. If only we will pray before we take the step, make that decision, enter into that relationship, marriage, business, etc., we will avoid many sorrows, pitfalls, debts, regrets and irreparable damage!

Whatever you are about to do, pray first and actually wait to hear God out. Pray before…

Blessings!
