In the fire

The story of the three Hebrew Boys is a favorite one. They were cast into a fiery furnace heated seven times over. Their crime? They refused to bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar’s idol.

Fire purifies, cleanses and refines. It burns away the dross to reveal the true identity of the thing it is applied to.

When we’re experiencing challenges and other difficulties, we usually say we’re going through fire. We take comfort in Isaiah 43:2 where God assures us that “When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

After the boys were thrown in the furnace, “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god !” Daniel 3:25. In the midst of the fire the king saw Christ.

It may not always feel like it, but God is closest to us when we’re going through tough times. The Bible says He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

May God open your eyes to see Christ even as you go through the fire. Most importantly, may others see Christ in your fiery furnace. May your true identity in Christ shine through even as you navigate your most challenging season.

Blessings
