Double Cure

I love Methodist Hymns, those Spirit-filled words can get you through any situation in life. I was musing over the hymn Rock of Ages and one line in the first stanza arrested me!

The line talks about the blood of Jesus being a “double cure” for sin. It cleanses us of sin’s power and guilt!

The blood just doesn’t wash our sins away but it breaks the power of sin’s control in our lives! We are not powerless over any type of sin; the blood affords us the power to overcome sin, say no to sin, turn our backs and walk away from sinful ways.

There are a few things worse than carrying guilt from something you did in the past. Well, you don’t have to. The blood frees you from past guilt. None of us can go back into our past and erase any of the things we now regret. You don’t have to keep rehearsing the past and dragging it into everything that happens to you.

Listen to Paul: “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, …Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.” 1 Timothy 1:12‭-‬13. Paul could do all the wonderful things he did because he did not allow his past failures to control him.

The blood has cured as all, let’s walk in wellness, good spiritual health and live freely for God!
