Tree Climbers

I have never climbed a tree in my life. Heights are not my thing; another reason why you will not find me strolling in some forest, in case I have to climb a tree to escape a lion. Lol.

This guy hears Jesus is passing through his town. He has heard quite a bit about the man: how He teaches with authority, hangs out with sinners, performs incredible miracles, etc, etc. He also heard that when Jesus comes into town, the whole place is thrown into a frenzy. Crowds follow him everywhere and it is really hard to get close to him.

All the talk about Jesus excites this guy Zacchaeus and he really, really wants to see who this Jesus is. He does not really need anything; he is not the most popular guy in town but he is wealthy, though his source of wealth is questionable!

He just wants to see who this mysterious man is. But there is a small problem, he is short. He knows there is no way he can see Jesus under these circumstances so quickly devises a plan. He will look for the nearest tree right in Jesus’ path but ahead of Him, which has a great view, climb and wait.

“When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”” Luke 19:5. Jesus did not suddenly see Zacchaeus, He knew he was on the tree before He got there! Zacchaeus could not believe his good fortune when Jesus called him out of tree. He never intended to catch Jesus’ attention, have Jesus call him and invite Himself to his house!!

All Zacchaeus wanted was to see Jesus, nothing else. Yet he was willing to risk possible injury. What are you doing or willing to do to get close to Jesus? Zacchaeus could have made excuses too you know-the crowd, his height, his wealth, his (negative) popularity and the ridiculousness of a grown man climbing a tree!! Do you do enough to draw closer to Jesus? Do you spend enough time with Him? If you want more of Him, be willing to go the extra mile. Be a tree climber today!

Blessings
Love, Lady Monica❤
