Salt & Light
I am not a big fan of sugar so I do without it almost always. Salt on the hand is tricky. When I cook or eat, I want to taste the salt. Sugar I do not care for but salt I care for. I also do not like darkness though now that I have gotten older I think I handle it a little better.
Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount referred to us believers as salt of the earth and light of the world. Of all the things He could have chosen, He picked these two. This is exactly what He said: “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:13-14
These two things bring change wherever they are applied. Distinct, unmissable and unmistakable change! There is no way you can add salt to a dish and not taste the difference. When light goes up, there is obvious visible change in the environment. That is who and what we are.
When we are added to a place, a situation, an environment, people must see change. We have not been bought with the precious blood of Jesus just to live a blah existence or to just blend in. We must stand out in any place we find ourselves; at work, at home, in school, in politics, everywhere. We should be known as change agents and live boldly to God’s glory.
Our choices, our speech, our attitudes, how we carry ourselves should be tasty. People must feel our presence in a positive way. We must light up every room by bringing joy, peace, patience, love, gentleness, faithfulness, integrity, self-control! Light reveals every hidden thing so let us build ourselves up in the Lord so that our light will reveal only good and noble things about us to others!!
Light cannot be hidden and salt cannot lose its saltiness, or they are both useless! Live tasty and boldly!
