Solid Evidence

Here is a simple definition of evidence I found: “the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid”. Even simpler is the one that says “evidence refers to something that furnishes proof of a matter”. In other words asserting the existence or otherwise of a fact is not enough; you must go further to adduce evidence to support your statement.

Lawyers know very well the importance of evidence. Going before a judge to make an averment without supporting it with relevant evidence will lead nowhere. Evidence comes in many forms such as oral testimony, video or audio tapes, documents.

In the days leading to up to His crucifixion, Jesus told His disciples to love one another. He said “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35. There you have it. The best evidence of our Christianity is our show of love to our fellow Christians. It is not enough to say we are followers of Christ; we must back that with actions of love.

If we say we are saved and fight with each other, gossip about each other, lie to and about each other, harbor offenses against each other, etc., we are merely paying lip service to the faith we profess.

The Apostle John makes it even more plain when he says in 1 John 3:14, “If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead.” Ouch!!

I know it is not always easy to love our fellow believers, but when we do, we are putting forth solid evidence of our faith in Christ. Some people just make it hard to love them but hey it is our duty to love one another. You also may not be as easy to love as you think but someone has to love you too.

Let 1 Corinthians 13 be your guide on what love looks like. There are many things we do to show that we are believers but the most solid evidence is our love for each other.

Blessings!
