Actively Passive

We all have our “God where are you?” moments. We find ourselves in situations where we long for God’s active intervention. We all want to experience what the Israelites experienced at the Red Sea. Moses cried to God and God intervened in real time, “creating a seven lane highway through the Read Sea” ( my pastor’s rendition of what happened that day, lol). Then they cried for food and water and received real time answers and provision too.

Well, we know God does not always come through like that and just so you know, He did not start that with us. Sometimes it seems as if He is just standing by passively watching things-usually bad and uncomfortable things-happen to us. That is not the case though for God is never passive. If you do not see Him move visibly in your case, it means He is actively choosing not to intervene directly though He could easily do so. He is God for crying out loud!

Joseph was a good kid by all standards and feared God but He went through some tumultuous times and for the longest period it seemed God was aloof. God did not interfere when his brothers sold him into slavery. God was silent when Potipher’s wife falsely accused Joseph of attempted rape. God kept quiet when Joseph was thrown into jail for a crime he did not commit. Well, that is how it seemed!

Genesis 39:20 makes us understand that through it all God was still with Joseph, watching over him, pulling strings, working in the background, shifting and shaping things up for a glorious ending. “But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden.” Genesis 39:21

The whole time-from when his brothers grabbed him till he was released from prison- God was with him, walking alongside him, leading him, working for him, watching over him so His purposes for Joseph would be fulfilled. In the end Joseph was able to say to his brothers when they were reconciled that “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good…”Genesis 50:20

God never abandoned Joseph and neither has He or will He abandon you. However it looks today, just know that God is working in your life even though you may not see it. Trust in His love for you and in His goodness! Soon you will see the manifestation of all the work He has been doing out of your view!

Blessings.
