Hastily

In the years I have been in ministry I can count more than a few times when people have pledged their undying love and loyalty to us and the ministry, vowed to stick with us always and never leave, only for them to walk away a few years later sometimes without even saying good bye. When the rich young ruler approached Jesus he seemed eager and ready to receive eternal life. When Jesus told him the cost involved in committing to Him and the Kingdom of God, his face fell and he left never to return. Matthew 19. As Jesus went about His business one day a Scribe, obviously blown away by Jesus’s out-of-this-world teaching and miracles shouted, “Teacher I will follow you wherever you go”. Jesus responded, “…“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”” Matthew 8:20. That was the end of the matter! Let us not be hasty in making promises and vows. God does not regard unfulfilled promises and unpaid vows lightly. Ecclesiastes 5 says it is better not to vow than to vow and not pay it because God takes no delight in fools! (v. 4-5). Also “Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God…” Ecclesiastes 5:2 The next time you decide make a promise or a vow to God or to another person, think it through, pray on it and make sure you do what you say. God expects us to be faithful to Him and also to each other. He wants your yes to be yes and your no to be no. Blessings! Love, Lady Monica ❤
