The Schedules

It is common to hear “I’ll check my schedule and let you know”, when you ask people for a meeting whether it is for business or pleasure. We all work with schedules; at times we are compelled to work around our schedules and make allowances for unexpected but important things. Some schedules are pretty set and it can be hard disrupt them.

Schedules help us manage our time profitability and productively. We do not always like it when our schedules are interrupted and would rather stick to the plan whether it makes others happy or not; we just need to follow the plan.
God runs on a schedule too. When it comes to our walk with Him, we may find ourselves in a battle of schedules with God. Hardly does God’s schedule align perfectly with our schedules. How should we then handle these “schedule conflicts” between ours and God’s scheduling?

I use my phone’s calendar to schedule everything from counseling sessions to kids’ after-school activities, to cleaning my bathroom, doing my hair, mini-vacations, board meetings and many more. Most often than not when I make a new entry, I receive a notification “this event conflicts with another event”. That is my cue to cancel one and yield to the other if I cannot complete both at the same time.

When your plan clashes with God’s plan for you, you can either yield to His schedule or butt heads with Him. You either let Him have His way or you have your way. I would rather let Him have His way than follow mine because clearly He knows better. If you choose to stick with your schedule come hell or high water you will end up piercing yourself with many sorrows. Ask Abraham’s wife Sarah.

Trust that God will come through for you at the set time, His set time. “And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.” Genesis 21:1‭-‬2 NKJV. God’s schedule is always perfect!

Blessings.
