Surely

Surely is defined as certainty with assurance or confidence; without doubt. Surely is a revelation of the reality; a conclusive statement of discovery. Psalm 23 illustrates the development of David’s relationship with God; the progressive evolution of his intimacy with God. Relationship prompts revelation. David the beloved, endured the process into the fullness of the blessing of the text. God’s promise is not devoid of a process. God must prepare you for what he has prepared for you. Great faith is required; God will never give you a life that does not require the faith factor to live it.
In the first verse of Psalm 23, the scripture uncovers the depth of David’s relationship with God. He possesses a trifold knowledge of God; thus, he has no wants. He’s pursued a deeper relationship with God such that he understands that his needs are supplied, but desires await. 2 “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.” For the good shepherd will take the sheep into rest and prosperity. 3“He restores my soul.”The restoration of soul allows for an intimate knowledge of God, producing an uncommon peace. In verse 4 David acknowledges that though there will be cycles of evil and fear; there is an assurance of His presence. There will be victory in overcoming evil. Verse 5 – leads to God Himself celebrating a person, David; preparing a table and anointing him, signifying divine empowerment, thus David became a vessel overflowing with God’s abundance.
The preceding text culminates our scriptural foundation in verse 6. Goodness and mercy are intangibles; they are spirits. They are the essence, the nature and character of God. Invisible, but offer evidentiary proof. (Hebrews 1:7). The goodness of God is the perfection of His character which He exercises towards His creatures according to their various circumstances and relations. God is infinitely and unchangeably good. (Zephaniah 3:17) His goodness appears in two things, giving and forgiving. God is not sometimes merciful and sometimes just, but He is eternally, infinitely just and merciful. The goodness of God is one of the attributes of God, as well as a description of His very essence. God, by nature, is inherently good, as Psalm 34:8 tells us: “Taste and see that the LORD is good;blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”He is the foundation of goodness and of everything good—He did not obtain it from another source. People can have good traits or do good deeds, but goodness is not in our character. Our goodness comes from God. We cannot earn and do not merit His goodness. It is available to us regardless of our station in life, even though we are not worthy of it.
God’s goodness is personal. He is good to each of us personally in ways that meet our individual needs. His goodness gives us the perfect model of goodness. By knowing God and learning His goodness, we can come to recognize true goodness and strive to do good things. God’s goodness assures us that His purpose for us is good. Just as parents want good for their children, our Heavenly Father wants only good for us. (James 1:17; Romans 8:28) The goodness of God offers us security and encouragement; we can depend on the unchanging goodness of God (Psalm 52:1). God’s goodness draws us to Him. The Goodness of God is the core of our Christian faith. It is because of His desire for our good that He provided salvation through His son.
David, a recipient of God’s goodness, was the greatest beneficiary of grace; the sure mercies of David. (Psalm 18:50) Goodness and mercy indeed followed David. The spirits of goodness and mercy cover our places of vulnerability and limitation, in example, our backs, where we have no vision. The back presents a broad and easy target for attack. Like David, we are assured that everywhere we go, goodness and mercy are our rear-guards.
Have faith in God’s goodness and mercy. Pursue his pleasure with diligence. That quality will assure you of His reward.
