Sin. We all do not like talking about it-believers and unbelievers alike. Some want us to believe that once you are born again, the concept of sin becomes irrelevant because you are a new creation and well, Christ has taken away all your sins-past, present and future.
I believe that sin does not disappear from the believer’s life but rather the power of sin over such a one’s life is broken, so that the “new creature” is no longer helpless or powerless against sin. He has a new attitude towards sin, he does not delight in it but abhors it.
As we still live in this flesh we will struggle with one sin or another; sin being anything you do, think or say that is outside of the will of God or contrary to His word! The Apostles, from Paul to Peter to John wrote frequently about sin to their saved and believing readers. No true Christian is comfortable with sinful acts and thankfully God freely extends the gift of forgiveness upon confession, then He forgets about it and we all move on. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Long before the Apostles wrote, the Psalmist David provided a panacea for sin. Her wrote “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” Psalms 119:11. God’s word is everything and fortunately for us we can find His word in the Bible. We must read, meditate and study His word so that it is carved on our hearts. In the event of being tempted to sin, we can recall a word to help us through! Jesus did! Paul added in Galatians 5:16, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” We get to stage a dual prong attack against sin. Yaaay!!
The enemy delights in our slipping from what delights God but God has not left us helpless in the dark but has given us tools to live a victorious life. Get some word in today and walk in the Spirit!
