It’s All Ours

It is always a joy to observe the transition from Winter to Spring; how seemingly dead trees begin to bud and spring to life; how bald shrubs develop flowers; how buried perennials resurrect after the long Winter sleep! Genesis 1 comes to mind as all the changes give me a tiny glimpse of how God’s words brought forth such natural beauty.

According to the opening words of Psalm 24, “The earth is the Lord’s , and the fullness thereof…”. Yes, the earth belongs to the Lord and then He gave it and all in it to us. “The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind.” Psalm 115:16. He took His time to create the earth and populated with trees, shrubs, sea creatures, birds of the sky and of the ground, all manner of animals, etc, etc and handed all to us. He made sure everything we would need and more were in place before He made man!

Everything He made, He made for us-for our use and for our enjoyment. God does not live here, we do and it behooves us to take care of what He has given us. We have a responsibility to take care of this earth, that small portion that we occupy. If we destroy our portion, we do our own selves and generations coming after us a huge disservice.

After God created Adam and Eve, He placed them in a special portion of the earth He carved out and called the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 says God put them there “to work it and take care of it”. We too are called on to do the same. We have a charge from the Creator to take care of our earth so that it can continue to serve us.

So the next time you litter, cut down trees, hunt animals for fun and engage in any destructive actions, remember the earth and all in it is ours to use, to love and to protect.

Blessings.
