Just Mercy

I recently watched a movie by this same title starring Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan. It was about a man wrongly condemned to die for a murder he did not commit. If you are into that kind of drama, do check it out sometime. A real murderer is on my mind today. I bet we are all familiar with the story of Cain and Abel, the First Children in the Bible. We are introduced to them in Genesis 4. The story goes that Cain was a farmer and Abel, a shepherd. In the course of time both brought a sacrifice consisting of portions of Abel’s flock and portions of Cain’s produce. God accepted Abel’s offering and rejected Cain’s. Cain was extremely pissed and devised a plan! “Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.” Genesis 4:8. Just like that! You can see from the verse that it was a premeditated, calculated, coldblooded killing. So of course God found Cain, questioned him and pronounced a fitting judgment on him. God cursed him and told him he would be a restless wanderer upon the face of the earth. That scared Cain. He pleaded that his punishment was too much and that the curse would give people a license to kill him. What did God do? He had mercy on Cain. He placed a mark on Cain and pronounced that “…anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over…” Genesis 4:15a. Who does that? Only God. Cain deserved every bit of that punishment. He deserved to be killed too. He lured his unsuspecting little brother, who probably trusted and looked up to him into the field and killed him for nothing! God showed him the mercy, love and consideration that he did not show his brother. Indeed God does not deal with us according to what we deserve. He is such a father. A loving, long suffering and amazing father. He is just, yet merciful. He scolds us then turns around immediately to hug us. His mercies are new every morning. His love knows no barriers. Indeed great is His faithfulness to us. Lord, thank you for not giving me what I deserve. Your mercy always trumps my mess! Thank you. Blessings! Love, Lady Monica ❤
