Grow!

When this year’s winter finally subsided, I noticed several patches in the grass on my lawn. One portion was made bald by snow plows! I decided to seed these parts so I have an even look all around. I focused on three large areas. I dug up the soil, added some top soil, poured out the seed already mixed with fertilizer and watered it.

Fortunately for me it rained a lot in the days and weeks following the planting so the new seed enjoyed a lot of water. After a while I began to see some sprouting and in a couple of weeks I had beautiful grass covering the patchy areas.

Well, except for one spot. It received the same amount of water as the other places, the same amount of care and attention yet it refused to grow! It feels so frustrating and I really do not know what else to do.

It got me thinking about our Christian walk. Jesus expects us to grow and be fruitful (Matthew 7:19); our pastors and leaders expect us to grow and bear fruit. If you are listening to the word of God day in and day out, reading and studying it too and bearing no fruit or bearing bad fruit then we have a problem.

In the parable of the sower, Jesus compared out hearts to the soil and the seed to the word of God. Cultivate your heart-soil by continually abiding in Christ. Staying connected to Him and opening up your heart for His word and allowing the Holy Spirit to rule in your life is the only way to grow and bear fruit!

Jesus said it all, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:4‭-‬5 NLT

Stay connected to Jesus and be intentional about your relationship with Him. Do not be like the patchy grass on the lawn!

Blessings.
