For Abraham’s Sake
“Everyone needs someone” so the saying goes, but not just any someone. I believe we are made to connect with other people, because people will open doors for you, offer you help to bring your ideas to light, help you get where you need to get to, help you through a difficult time etc. Whatever you want to do in life you need people or someone. And oh some people can also lead you into trouble or bring you much trouble. People can be a blessing or a lesson, as we say.
So who you pair with is important. We also say that your network determines your net worth or who your friend is determines your character.
The Bible says in Genesis 13 that Abraham’s nephew Lot, who decided to go with Abraham when God called the latter, became wealthy as Abraham became wealthy. Because he hitched his wagon to Abraham’s, Lot became blessed too.
Then again in Genesis 19:29, we are told that when God decided to totally destroy Sodom & Gomorrah where Lot lived, He remembered Abraham and for his sake “…he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities…”
David associated with King Saul’s son Jonathan and that saved his life many times. Samson paired up with Delilah and that brought him to his doom. Ruth chose to follow Naomi into a foreign land and her life changed in a way she had not imagined. I could go on and on but I know you get my point.
“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.” Proverbs 13:20 “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17 “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”” I Corinthians 15:33
As you ponder over these verses, remember that no one succeeds by living in isolation for “woe to him who is alone and has no one to lift him up if he falls”. However we must wisely and prayerfully choose our friends, associates, business partners and life partners. Blessings.
