Attitude of Gratitude

Let’s be honest, ladies, we don’t thank God enough. Those of us who learnt how to pray in Sunday School were taught to use a certain structure-adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication (ACTS). Some of us still use that or something similar by default. I bet you spend more time on supplication (for others and yourself) than you spend on thanksgiving.

This morning as I was praying, I found myself stuck on thanksgiving for a while and I just couldn’t move on. So as I began to list and ponder over the things God has done for my family this year alone, from the mundane to the complicated. I realized I have a lot to thank Him for and then I realized one other thing: I don’t thank Him enough.
Just for keeping me safe on the road daily because the number of times I drive in a day, week, month is astonishing. I see accidents but I’ve not been involved in one, I see pull-overs but I haven’t been pulled over; not even a scratch on the car.

Did some unexpected things happen in the year? Of course they did. Did some not-so-good things happen too? Yep, but that should not sully or affect your thanksgiving. However bad your situation is, trust me, someone has it worse. Choosing an attitude of gratitude over ingratitude lifts your spirit up.

Thanksgiving can counter depression. Thanksgiving forces you to focus of the positive. Thanksgiving puts a smile on your face. As the song goes “count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done”.

I personally make it a point to thank God for even the negatives because they help my Faith to grow; they stretch my faith and help me measure my level of maturity at that particular time.
You have control over the attitude you adopt in this life and I urge you to choose an attitude of gratitude. No parent likes the ungrateful child so don’t be that child in your relationship with God.

Blessings!
Love, Lady Monica
