Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of my favorite scriptures. It prescribes what every Christian must do in order to enjoy his/her walk with God in this life. This is what these verses say, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

I know you will agree with me that this can be really, really hard at times. Hard as it may be, the opposite is not exactly helpful. Leaning on our own understanding is problematic because we as humans are limited in our understanding. Usually we can understand things that make sense so relying on our human understanding when certain things do not make sense or are difficult to understand will not be helpful. Trying to make sense of what does not make sense only leads to more confusion and more problems. So the bible gives us a prescription: simply trust and submit all your ways to God. I know, it is not that simple.

When you have applied for countless jobs and you have not received one call for an interview, trust Him. When you have tried for years and still cannot have a child, trust Him. When you have done all you can but the marriage is failing or has failed, trust Him. When the year is almost half way through and you still have not met your dream husband or wife and you are not growing younger, trust Him. When you are battling inexplicable lingering sickness, trust Him.

God did not draw you to Him to make you miserable or make you fail or make you a laughing stock. Submit your ways, plans, life to Him and allow Him to direct your paths. He will direct you into green pastures, beside still waters and also through the valley of the shadow of death. He will direct you through crooked paths and straight paths. In fact sometimes He will create crooked paths for you. “…Who can straighten what he [God] has made crooked?” Ecclesiastes 7:13. The good news is He will walk the crooked paths with you.

Be encouraged that once you have committed your life to Christ all things will work together for your good. Stop trying to figure it all out with your human understanding, rather lean on God the one whose understanding is limitless.

Blessings.

Love,
Lady Monica ❤
