Remain, Then Ask

I believe all or most of us have heard that God answers prayers in three ways, yes, no or wait. Like me, I bet you do not always like the last two answers. As my daughter Faith told me recently when I refused to give her “a surprise” a.k.a chocolate, ” no is not an answer, only yes is”! Oh to be a child again!

We all want a yes and there are several scriptures that tell us that God is also willing to give us a yes when we pray for something. A favorite is Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Then there is John 15:7 which I believe qualifies the ask. It says, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” This is telling us that as long as we are united with Christ and allow

Him and His teachings too to control our minds, direct our lives, to take precedence over all else and seek to live a Spirit-filled and a Spirit-led life, whatever we ask of the Lord will be done for us!

The reason is that a person who is so fused with Christ or who has Christ as the controlling influence in his/her life will have desires that align with the will and the purposes of God!

It follows then that such a person will not ask for things to satisfy his/her selfish desires, or with the wrong motives, as God will not give in to such requests. James 4:3. John again confirms this in 1 John 5:14, where he says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

“Take delight in the Lord , and he will give you your heart’s desires.” Psalms 37:4. Again, a person who delights in the Lord will have heart desires that accord with the will of God!

So, there you have it, delight, remain then ask!

Blessings!
