Immanuel!
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).” Matthew 1:23
No, this is not about Christmas. Today, I just want to remind all of us that God is with us. He is on and by our side! I know though that sometimes it does not feel that way. However I can assure you of one thing: that the Lord’s word is true. One of the last things Jesus said before leaving earth was that “… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
God has promised never to leave you nor forsake you and God does not lie. Sometimes He is quiet for a season to accomplish a certain purpose. God was with Joseph through the pit, to Portipher’s house through false accusations, to prison and finally to prime-ministership. He would have been right to assume God had forsaken him during those dark and terrible moments. In the end it all made perfect sense.
We do not see God physically as Adam and Eve did, we will not see Him in the form of Christ as the disciples did but He is still with us in the form of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we need to be silent to hear Him and even when we do not hear Him, He is still working on our behalf. If God was not with us we would not have made it this far. The fact that we are here today testifies to that.
As He was with you in 2018, He will be with you in 2019. Be anxious for and about nothing. Let not your circumstances deceive you into thinking that God is not on your side. He has always been and will always be.
Finally, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6. You can take this to the bank!
Blessings.
