In Matthew 8, we meet a Roman Centurion who approaches Jesus and pleads for Him to heal his gravely ill servant. Jesus readily agrees to go to his house to perform the healing, to which the centurion quickly responds,
“The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” Matthew 8:8.
The Gentile believed so much in the power in the words of Jesus that he believed He could heal his servant from a distance. Jesus marveled at his great faith.
This story should make us all ask questions about and reexamine our own faith. How firm really is our faith in Christ? Do we believe He can still heal from a distance? Do we have faith that He will see us through our darkest moments and biggest challenges? Do we believe He cares deeply about us and will answer our prayers? Do we really?
That this Centurion was a Gentile speaks volumes. His faith fueled his audacity to approach Jesus in broad daylight. How far are we willing to stretch our faith? May God give us all the boldness and the confidence to trust that though He is far from us, He can still do wonders from a distance. Do you believe?
Blessings!
