Do Not…

While consoling His grief stricken disciples before His death, Jesus told them that it was for their (and our) benefit that He went away. So that the Holy Spirit, our helper ( advocate, comforter) would come.

The Holy Spirit’s purpose, among others, is to help us navigate this walk of faith so that we will not gratify the desires of the flesh. In other words He helps us not to continue to abide in sin but to live a life that pleases God. The Holy Spirit reminds us of Jesus’ teachings and reveals truth to us.

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Romans 8:14. To live as children of God we must allow ourselves be led by the Spirit. He is an invisible strong influence in our lives and will always nudge us towards the right path. It is up to us to choose to follow His leading. Sometimes He leads us towards the right decisions, the right influences, the right relationships and we say no or we push back.

The more we push back, the more we say no, His influence in our lives dwindle and before we know it wrong choices and bad things are no longer so wrong or so bad! As we refuse His help or ignore his promptings, we become distanced and disconnected from God. We have effectively quenched the spirit.

We cannot succeed as Christians in the world without the Holy Spirit. Allowing Him to lead and direct you is the only way to go. Consistently stonewalling or turning a deaf ear to Him will lead you away from what God wants from and for you.

If you feel you have moved away from the Holy Spirit and from God, it is time to pray and ask God to draw you close again. Whatever you do, “Do not quench the Spirit.” 1 Thessalonians 5:19

Blessings!
