Committed?
In Judges 16, we are introduced to Delilah. When you read her story words like deceptive, wicked, immoral, greedy, etc., come to mind. In a nutshell, Samson, a Nazarite called of God and a judge over God’s people fell in love with Delilah, a Philistine woman.
The leaders of the Philistines approached Delilah, offered her money and asked her to find out the secret of Samson’s supernatural strength so they could capture him. She accepted the challenge. Three times she asked Samson to disclose his secret, three times he lied. Delilah pulled out every weapon in her feminine arsenal to achieve her goal. She pressured Samson, nagged him, cried, pouted, cajoled and babied him, and finally pulled out the “L” word
“Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when you won’t confide in me?… With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it” So Samson caved and gave away his secret.
Say all you want about Delilah but she teaches us persistence, focus, determination, single-mindedness and relentlessness. She was committed to her cause-a bad, demonic cause-and she was going to do whatever it took to follow through.
How dedicated are you to the cause of Christ? The cause of your church? Your ministry? Your job, Your business, Your dreams and goals? Do you give it your all no matter what or you walk away at the first sign of resistance ? How persistent are you in your pursuit of Christ? How committed are you in the pursuit of your education?
Do you easily give up because you did not get the answer/result you wanted the first time? One of the most important qualities for a Christian is the ability to persist or persevere because God does not always answer the first time. Delilah went to Samson again and again until she accomplished her mission.
The value you place on your mission, goals and dreams, determines what you are willing to put in, how far you are willing to go and what you are willing to sacrifice for it.
For eleven shekels of silver, Delilah was willing to risk it all. What are you willing to risk for the bloody, gory cross? What are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your dreams? Do not give up on God that easily and do not give up on your dreams so quickly. Go the extra mile, try again, God is your helper.
Blessings!
