Blessed Is…

“… the man who trusts in the Lord , And whose hope is the Lord . Jeremiah 17:7

Everyone wants to be blessed. We all love a good blessing spoken over us. It puts a spring in our steps, it boosts our confidence, keeps us hopeful and secure. This verse tells us that those of us who trust in the Lord, i.e. who have believed in Him, have surrendered to Him and walk closely with Him-are blessed.

The prophet Jeremiah goes on to explain in v.8 what it means to be blessed or how the one blessed of the Lord looks like, lives like and acts like.

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8

In other words, you (the blessed believer) are unshakable like a tree planted by the waters because you have put your trust in God and not in man or riches or intelligence or skills! Though seasons will change, you will still stand in good times and in bad. Though heat and drought may come, you will continue to stand and not only that but consistently bear fruit. Your leaves will be green all year round while other trees have no leaves or have dead brown leaves. All because you are anchored to the Lord. He will refresh and nourish you always and you will be able to withstand the troubles of this life!

While you see other trees around you falling and dying, losing hope and giving up, you will continue to stand tall, you will not be overtaken by fear or anxiety because of the one you have put your trust in!

Such is the lot of those who have trusted in the Lord. You may be in a storm or a drought right now but know that once you are holding on steadfast to the Lord you will come through it, you will not be knocked down because you are blessed. Let us repeat with David: ” I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” Psalms 16:8!

Blessings.
