Jehovah Mephalti
The Lord My Deliverer. I wrote about 1 Samuel 23 yesterday and the chapter has been on my mind since. I want to share a couple of prayer points from there with you.
It captures just a portion of David’s flight from Saul. The chapter contains some ‘on the edge of seat’ scenes that could very well fit a classic Roman movie or a Bond movie (minus the sophisticated weapons and custom suits). Saul’s relentless pursuit of David as described therein can be likened to the devil’s pursuit of the children of God. 1 Peter 5:8 aptly describes it this way: “…Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
So the town of Keilah is under Philistine attack. David swoops in super-hero style and with his men heavily defeat the Philistines, saving the town. Saul of course has spies everywhere and gets word that David is in Keilah and that the townsfolk are willing to deliver David into his hands. Saul is excited by the news and says “God has delivered him into my hands, for David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars.” v.7. Saul rallies his troops to set out for Keila but God reveals the plot to David and “So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah…” (v.13a), as the people of Keilah watched unable to do or say anything.
Prayer 1: may the Lord spring a surprise on your enemies and just when they think they have you cornered, may He provide a way out for you. May you escape any snare of the fowler laid out for you and yours today. Amen.
Before he can catch his breath in the Desert of Ziph, the Ziphites alert Saul of David’s whereabouts asking him to come to Ziph and that “… we will be responsible for giving him (David) into your hands.” v.20. Saul obliges and that begins a cat (Saul) and mouse (David) game spanning the desert of Ziph and Maon. Just when Saul gets too close for comfort, the Lord shows up as only He knows how!! “…As Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his men to capture them, a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Come quickly! The Philistines are raiding the land.” v.26-27. So Saul aborts his hunt of David to goes home and fight the Philistines who were scattering his land.
Prayer 2: As your enemies pursue you, may the Lord rain havoc in their camp to cut short their agenda against you. May He always come through for you even in the eleventh hour.
I declare that no harm shall overtake you and no disaster shall come near your dwelling. You shall experience the deliverance of the Lord.
