I’d Rather Not

Nobody told me it’d be easy! God did not promise us a trouble free life! Trials build endurance and strengthen our faith. I know you have heard these before. Well, it is all scriptural. Isaiah 43:2 captures these sayings beautifully, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” These words are comforting, reassuring and should provide all the confidence and boldness we need to face and tackle our challenges. Honestly though, I would rather not pass through the waters and rivers or walk through the fire. If I had to choose, I would choose to sidestep these. Yes, God says I will not be burned or drown but I really do not want to smell of smoke or get wet at all! However trials, testings and challenges in this life are unavoidable. At some point, your faith will be tested, after all that is the stuff testimonies are made of! The testimony is not that you did not go through challenging moments, but rather you went through some raging fires and stormy seas and still made it to the other side. You fell many times but got up each time. The enemy threw his best punches at you but you are still walking tall! You cannot call yourself a champion, an overcome or a victor unless you have gone through some hairy situations. Whatever you are experiencing at the moment, whatever is troubling your soul, I pray that God will strengthen you to go through these. He says you are not alone for He is with you. We know that as long as God is on our side, the story will end in victory! After the fire dies down and the waters calm down, you will be standing, armed with a testimony!
