Unexpected Sources
We are introduced to Elijah in 1 Kings 17. He bursts onto the scene with an ominous prophetic announcement that there would be drought in the land of Israel for a few years as punishment for their sin of idolatry. Of course the prophesy affected him too but God made provision for him to be fed.
God asked Elijah to go hang out at the brook Cherith, “[a]nd it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.” 1 Kings 17:4. God’s moves are beyond our understanding. Though ravens are omnivores their diet consists mainly of meat, yet God chose a carnivorous bird to deliver meat and bread to Elijah. God’s command will supersede any law of nature at anytime. Whatever He speaks shall be done, end of story. Elijah was fed this way for a while until the brook dried up.
As is His nature God had already put in place a plan B for Elijah’s provision after the brook dried up. “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” 1 Kings 17:9. I wonder what went through Elijah’s mind at the mention of a widow. Widows were usually poor and in a season of drought, their situation was definitely worse than everyone else’s yet God decided she would be the ons to help the prophet. Elijah obeyed nonetheless, did as the Lord directed and he was fed and kept by the widow for a considerable period of time.
God’s supply and provision are endless and He can use any means and any source to provide for us. Sometimes He may use unlikely or unexpected sources. Abraham experienced the Lord’s divine provision after God gave him a ram to sacrifice in lieu of his son Isaac. The five thousand hungry, tired and thirsty people experienced divine provision when Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fish for them to eat till they could eat no more.
May the Divine Provider supply all your needs according to His riches in Heaven through Christ Jesus. Whether you are worried about where your next paycheck is coming from, worried about your rent, about food for yourself and your kids, clothes, your business, your job, whatever you need, it is my prayer that Jehovah Jireh will come through for you. May He surprise you with provision from unexpected and unlikely sources.
Blessings.
