The Arranger
“But thou, Beth–lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
Seven hundred years before Christ was born, the Prophet Micah prophesied His birth place. Seven hundred years after the prophesy, God located Jesus’s earthly parents who though were connected to Bethlehem did not live there. They resided in Nazareth in Galilee, about 80 miles and several days’ walk to Bethlehem. What would move Joseph to decide to take his pregnant wife to his hometown, which he probably left a while back to deliver her baby? It would make no sense.
Then came Caesar Augustus, the Roman Governor. He made a decree that everyone in the Roman world, including the Jews in Israel, must go to his or her hometown to be registered for tax purposes. Some commentators say Caesar made that decree because he needed money from taxes to raise a fitting army to control his vast empire and also to support his lavish lifestyle.
Whatever Caesar’s reason was, the decree was right within God’s plan to get Mary and Joseph into Bethlehem to deliver baby Jesus in Bethlehem in fulfillment of prophesy. Caesar might have thought he had conceived this brilliant idea to raise money but it was actually a move within the will and plan of God.
Man has his way of doing things and God has His too and His ways are always higher and mysterious. He will not always tell us how He will accomplish His plans for us but we can be sure once He says it He will make all the necessary arrangements to ensure His words and His promises stand.
Pharaoh’s sister thought it was just pure luck that led her to find baby Moses on the Nile. Little did she know that it was an arrangement divinely orchestrated to get Moses into the Egyptian palace to be trained for God’s use some eighty years later.
My prayer for you this year is that God will give you the grace to trust and believe that He has put some things in motion and is making some arrangements to answer your prayers. Hold on to His word for you and leave the details to Him. Blessings.
