Mere Words?

Everyone knows yesterday was International Women’s Day! If you didn’t, Social Media reminded you loudly.

Many if not all companies took to Social Media to shout out women in their organizations. Then later in the day, I saw an article about a bot tweeting about gender pay disparity in some of the companies praising and acknowledging women! The title of the article was “Deeds Not Words”. In other words, if you value women this much why are you paying them less than men for the same work! I think the bot is pretty cool!

Anyway, this reminded me of 1 John 3:18 where the Apostle gave some sound advice on words and deeds too. “Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18. Words are easy; talk is cheap, as they say and we don’t always put our money where our mouth is! One thing we know is that as Christians, our words must always match our actions. We easily say we love people but do we really reflect on what that means or do we just let it roll off our tongues because, well, it’s easy to say?

In the same way, if we say we love Jesus then our actions towards Him and others must reflect that. God backed His words of love to us by action and we must do the same!

If we say we have faith, then our actions must mirror our faith. The Apostle James broke it down pretty good. “… “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” James 2:18. How do your deeds measure up to your words? Muse on this!

Blessings!
