Joy & Sorrow

My dad passed away on December 23rd, 2022. On that same day, my brother and his wife welcomed their baby girl Julia into the world. It was a day of both joy and sorrow.

David’s son, Absalom, rebelled against his father, and David had to leave Jerusalem. Joab, David’s army commander, put down the insurrection by executing Absalom. When news of the death of his traitorous son reached David, he wept uncontrollably.

“…“O my son Absalom—my son, my son Absalom—if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!” 2 Samuel 18:33

It was a bittersweet kind of news. His son’s death meant David’s life and throne had been spared; he could return home and resume his kingship! He lost and gained on the same day.

In this life, we’ll have many reasons to cry and many reasons to rejoice. God has a way of balancing it all out.

May God give us the grace to find a reason to smile even in our darkest moments. May we be the kind of people who count our blessings instead of our sorrows. Gratitude helps the heart heal quicker.

I challenge you today to rejoice, I say it again, rejoice!

Blessings!

Love, Lady Monica❤️
