Had I Known
I think it is fair to say we have all done and said some things in the past we would not have if we knew what we know now. Some courses you would not have studied, a career path you would not have chosen, a relationship you would not have engaged in, some decisions you would simply not have taken.
I bet we will all have some sound advice for our 18, 20, 30, 40, 50 year old selves if we could turn back the hands of the clock. Well, life is forward-looking so in order to enjoy the present and create a better future we must leave the past in the past.
Throughout the journey of life, we will make mistakes, take wrong turns and mess up a few or many times. The good news is if we are in Christ, we do not have to carry around the burden of past mistakes and sins on our shoulders. Jesus took them all upon Himself, died with them, was buried with them and resurrected without them, to give us new life and make us into a new creatures.
1 Peter 1:3 sums it up beautifully, “…In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” If you are not convinced 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Do not waste your time obsessing over past mistakes and sins from which you have been set free. That exercise is futile and will only weigh you down and restrict your ability to move forward and live free! God is not holding them over you, in fact He does not even remember them so why are you holding on to the pain, regret, anger and shame?
Now that you know better, strive to do better. That’s all you can do. God will help us all.
Blessings.
