All His
Do you sometimes feel like patting yourself on the back and congratulating yourself for all you have and all you have achieved? Feeling like you are where you are or have what you have because you are so smart, super intelligent or just plain lucky? I am not saying it is bad to be proud of yourself or your achievements; you should be but you should also acknowledge the source of all you are and all you have!
Whether you are a believer in Christ or not, our source for all the things we have and need is one! God. Psalm 24:1 puts it simply: “The earth is the Lord ’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”. We will not have anything if God did not give it to us. The air we breathe, the power to acquire wealth, the ideas to improve our world and our lives, etc! He created the earth, created us and equipped us with all we need to live in it!
The parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:16-21) comes to mind. He looked at all his possessions and was mighty proud of what he had. He arrogantly told himself he was all set for years so he would take life easy, eat, drink and be merry. God’s response to his arrogance was swift; He said, “‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’”. Uh oh.
Since all we have is the Lord’s which He has lent to us, what should our attitude be? We should be thankful to Him always for what we have and for our very existence; we should freely share what we have with others; and freely give back to Him.
After King David made generous provisions for the building of God’s temple, he acknowledged again, “Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” 1 Chronicles 29:14. May we recognize too that all we have is all His, even our very lives! Blessings.
