Choices

We are faced with choices everyday, from the mundane to the complicated. We must make a choice to drink the soda or water, to eat that salad or the fries. We make a choice to smile or frown, to fight or to let go. We make choices throughout the day consciously and unconsciously. Doubtless some choices are more important that others, and so require more thought.

What informs the choice is as important as the choice itself. Why are you making the choice you just made? What is the basis for the particular choice? What is your reason and what are you hoping to achieve? These thought processes are important because choices have consequences and we will have to live with them, some for the rest of our lives. There are some choices you just cannot make cavalierly.

As Christians we must prayerfully make our choices.

We cannot make choices based on appearances. Abraham and Lot were faced with a choice. Gen.13 tells us that both Abraham and Lot had great possessions. The land they shared could not contain them and their men and flock anymore. So their men began fighting among themselves, jostling for space. Abraham had to make a choice to part ways with Lot. Each would choose which side to go. “Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord , like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company:” Gen. 13:10‭-‬11. Clearly Lot’s choice was based on what his eyes perceived as good. He chose what seemed best in his eyes and in the end he lost everything.

Choices! We cannot live without them. Some are made for us and we have no control over but we will make many choices in our three score and ten years (and more) on this earth.

Know the ones you cannot make lightly, pray on them, consider all the options, weigh the (known possible) consequences and choose. Choices can make or mar you. Let us all choose well.

Blessings.
